December Edition

Rural Pursuits Fishing – Hunting – Shooting December 2022 publication is the end product of an idea that was formed over a year ago.

Calls were made to people to submit articles for publication on various Social media channels.

The December edition of Rural Pursuits will have articles on Dog Trials, Fly Tying, Pike Fishing, Knife Making, Game and Conservation Club Focus, Clay Shoot Club Focus, Conservation pieces, Deer, Sea Fishing, and much more.

Some of the writers are experienced and, in previous lives, have submitted articles for other magazines, for some, this will be their first publication, but youth has to be given a chance. The writers currently come from Ireland, UK, Belgium & The USA.

As the magazine evolves, it is hoped that we can have feature articles from local and international experts but at the same time remain loyal to those who have already taken a leap of faith to write for this new publication.

What started as an idea has now developed into something a little more realistic. There will be an e-version of the magazine, but this will only be available a month after the sale date of the magazine’s hard copy.

I have reached out to the sporting organisations that encompass these pursuits, and it is hoped that for the March edition, we can have more of these on board.

Postage and printing are the biggest expenditure outlay, but as the magazine becomes more established, it will be available in more shop locations, which will cut down on postage fees.

Thanks to everyone for the custom, and I hope to have at least four and who knows, maybe a surprise edition for 2023

John.

Fishing off the South East Coast of Ireland
“Boat angling is not without its draw backs, trying to get days when the time of year, tides and weather suits can sometimes mean long spells without getting the boat in the water. The weather is key and dictates most trips, even though I am lucky in where I am based to have access to plenty of sheltered water, not all anglers are and risks should never be taken”

60 Years a Gamekeeper
Times were changing and changing fast. Game-keeping was changing even faster. Keepers I had worked under were mostly old men, born and bred in the job and doing it all their lives, apart from perhaps a few years in the second world war and some even the first war”

Why are Trout not looking up?
“Phosphate is a limiting nutrient for plant growth in freshwater no matter how much Nitrate is present. Excess Phosphate causes Algal and rooted plant growth leading to interference with navigation, aeration and channel capacity”
